From November 7th to 8th, the 2018 "Folei Cup" National Judo Masters Tournament was held in Foshan, Guangdong Province. In the two-day competition, 182 athletes from 26 units across the country competed in 14 events, resulting in 7 male and 7 female champions across different weight classes. A total of 434,000 yuan in prize money was awarded.

The event was hosted by the China Judo Association and co-organized by the Foshan Judo Association and the Nanhai District Bureau of Culture and Sports. This is the second time Foshan has hosted a national judo competition, following the first National Judo Masters Tournament. According to the organizers, the competition used the latest International Judo Federation (IJF) rules, with a single-elimination system and quarter-final repechage. The competition's standard and the athletes' skill levels were very high, with participants being the top 16 male and female judoka in each weight class nationwide; they are also key players preparing for the Tokyo Olympics.

The first match was the women's -48kg event, between athletes from Liaoning and Guangdong. Wearing their formal judo uniforms, they engaged in an intense competition. Both sides were evenly matched, with scores rising alternately, creating a tight match until the end, when the Liaoning athlete seized an opportunity to throw her opponent and win.

After the referee announced the result, both sides bowed before leaving the mat. "This is the charm of judo; it's a sport that emphasizes etiquette, politeness, and respect for others," explained Xian Dongmei, President of the China Judo Association and head coach of the national judo team.
Xian Dongmei stated that holding the National Judo Masters Tournament would accelerate the promotion and popularization of judo in Nanhai, allowing the competition to be not only a celebration for professional athletes but also providing more opportunities for judo enthusiasts to showcase their skills.

Guo Runbo, president of the Foshan Judo Association, believes that this competition allows athletes to improve their competitive level in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and also strengthens the mass base of judo in Foshan through activities such as promoting judo in schools. "We want to continue this event and make it a nationally influential regular judo event."
