Shaanxi News Broadcast reports on the 2018 National Judo Championships.
As the most important event of the Chinese Judo Association in the second half of this year, this competition brings together 30 teams from across the country, with a total of 568 athletes participating. The event features individual competitions divided into seven weight classes for both men and women, as well as three mixed-team competitions for both men and women.

In an interview with reporters, Xian Dongmei, President of the Chinese Judo Association, stated that although the Chinese judo team’s current results are not yet ideal, in order to promote the wider development of judo, the Chinese Judo Association has launched competitions for young athletes across all age groups. This initiative aims to make the sport more accessible and lay a solid foundation for the systematic development of judo talent in China.

Xian Dongmei, President of the National Judo Association, accepts an interview with a reporter.
Judo is a martial art based on grappling, softness, and body mechanics. It is highly competitive and extremely visually appealing, making it one of the key competitive sports at the Olympic Games. Although China’s judo program started relatively late, it has developed rapidly—especially after Zhuang Xiaoyan won China’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in judo in 1992, marking the beginning of China’s glorious journey in the sport at the Olympics.
The Chinese judo athletes who have won Olympic gold medals are:
1992 Zhuang Xiaoyan, Women's Judo, Over 72 kg category;
1996 Sun Fuming, Women's Judo, Over 72 kg category;
2000 Yuan Hua, Women's Judo, Over 78 kg category;
2004: Xian Dongmei won the gold medal in the women’s 52-kg judo category at the Athens Olympic Games; 2008: She again won the gold medal in the 52-kg category at the Beijing Olympic Games.
In 2008, Tong Wen won the gold medal in the women’s judo +78 kg category at the Beijing Olympic Games.
